My version of a rebel flock quilt.  Rebel HSTs.  80 total, with six deviants.  Surrounded with two shades of navy.  Quilted in an overall uneven grid.  Mostly navy thread with a few lines of light grey.

The back is primarily Priory Square with a bit of Architextures Crosshatch in Poppy.

Broken Pinwheels.
In the end, I opted for pinwheels, and I'm so glad I did. They're a great match for these colorful Modern Workshop prints. I also decided to forgo my typical striped sashing (like this quilt), and I especially like the 'bonus' fifth pinwheel that's created where four blocks come together.
I have to confess that I messed up stitching the individual pinwheels together and when laying them out discovered that approximately half were spinning the opposite direction! At the time there was no way I was ripping them out, so I created the center with the "correct" blocks and started adding borders to get the quilt up to size. Ultimately, I did rip them out (go figure!) to create the saw tooth for the outer border as anything else just looked too heavy.
Finished size is roughly 36" x 40". Quilted with diagonal stitching to either side of the pinwheels' center seams.

During one of my attempts to clean up my fabric stash, I cut the smallest of my solid scraps into rectangles and got the idea to pair them with two tones of dark gray to create color spot squares.
The inner color spots measure one to two inches and are roughly square. The grey border is 1 1/2". I pieced them together by laying multiple pre-cut squares on a strip of grey one after the other and stitched the whole length at once. After pressing and cutting apart, I did the process again for the next two sides.
I originally started piecing these together with the intent of making a series of coasters, but now that I see them altogether I think I may need to start a new quilt.

or two. I finished up the blue and green pinwheel quilt for a shower Sunday afternoon, just in time. There's something about pinwheels and I can't seem to get enough of them. They're a great way to keep my formidable scrap pile under control too. The owls were complete and gifted away awhile back, but they're too cute not to post!
